Texas Major Aquifers

The nine major aquifers of Texas, as mapped by the Texas Water Development Board. An aquifer is water held in the pore space of rock and sand underground — not an underground lake, though that is a reasonable way to picture it. Each aquifer appears twice: the outcrop, where the water-bearing formation reaches the surface, and the downdip, where it continues underground beneath younger rock. That is why they overlap.
