Austin Project Connect — What Actually Opened
Everything Project Connect has actually put into service as of 2026: two MetroRapid bus routes, 800 Pleasant Valley and 837 Expo Center, which opened on 23 February 2025 across roughly 30 miles of East Austin. No light rail track has been laid, six years after voters approved 54.4 miles of it. Even these opened short of the promise — diesel buses rather than the electric fleet planned, 20 to 30 minute headways rather than 10, and temporary stops because the park-and-rides at each end were not finished. Alignments are the ones filed in the 2020 system plan, so this layer and the plan layer are directly comparable.
